Next Steps

Baptism

As a follower of Jesus, one of the next steps you are going to is to go public with your faith and be baptised. Baptism is immersion under water to symbolise that your sins have been washed away, and as you come up out of the water, this is a picture of you being raised by the power of Jesus to walk in your new life.

Why should I be baptised?

Put simple, Jesus wants you to be.

Jesus Himself was baptised by John in the River Jordan at the age of 30, just before the beginning of His public ministry, giving an example for His followers. (Matt. 3:13-17)

Jesus told His disciples that they should go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:18-20)

The disciples obeyed Him and preached the gospel. Those who believed and repented were baptised in water. (Acts 2:41; 8:12,38; 9:18; 10:48; 16:15,33; 19:5; 22:16)

Who should be baptised?

Anyone who has repented from their sins, believed in Jesus as their Saviour and decided to follow Him as disciples, should be baptised in water. (1 John 3:9; 4:7; 5:1,4)

When should we be baptised?

As soon as you have believed! You shouldn’t delay. Believers in the New Testament were baptised the same day. (Acts 2:41; 8:35-39)

If you recently have put your faith in Jesus or have been a believer for a while but have never been water baptised; baptism is awaiting you. We are cheering you on as you take this wonderful step in acknowledging who Jesus is in your life and that you are choosing Him all the days of your life.
